Established in 1961 by the Indiana General Assembly, the Indiana Port Commission is a seven member, bipartisan board appointed by the governor to promote the agricultural, industrial and commercial development of the state through the construction and operation of public ports and transportation-related facilities throughout Indiana.

The Ports of Indiana is dedicated to facilitating economic development in Indiana through logistics facilities and services, maritime industrial and commercial development, development finance tools and strategic public-private partnerships.

The Indiana Port Commission is entrusted by the citizens of Indiana to manage and develop public port facilities in keeping with statutory purposes and the principles of public stewardship.
